Recently, I learned that I was selected to be a Dazey LA Ambassador! I was first introduced to the Dazey brand last fall when a t-shirt caught my eye in the window of Stroll, my favorite boutique in my neighborhood of Little Italy, San Diego. The t-shirt was retro, mustard (the “It color” for last fall) and had a simple positive message – “Love More”. Last fall, well last year in general, seemed to be dipped in bad vibes with the volatile political climate, so when I saw this sweet little good-vibes tee, I HAD to have it. From there I became interested to see what else the Dazey brand had to offer, so I did some research which yielded the most pleasantly refreshing results. More than just brand from LA that hocks fast fashion, Dazey was founded by two female powerhouses on a mission to change the world. Dazey merchandise comes from female artists and entrepreneurs and, as the website states, is responsibly sourced and “made to order” in a process they like to call “slow fashion.” Their focus is more than just being the latest trend, it’s advocating for female empowerment.

And if I may get on my soap box for a minute. . . I believe the world could use so much more of that – female empowerment. As a new nurse, I never considered what it would mean to work in a female-dominated profession. Coming in, I thought “sisterhood”, and in many instances I was blessed to experience that. I will be forever grateful to the brilliant, strong women who trained me, and I continue to be grateful for the women who continue to build me up! But I have also seen the ugly side of women’s workplace competition and passive-aggressive dynamics, and the way we treat each other can be truly embarrassing sometimes! Nowadays there are wonderful, grand women’s marches, and women speaking out against sexual harassment and jacked-up pay scales, and companies like Dazey making their stance to support the cause. But if we women are going to continue to make progress in our workplace and in our home, we we cannot afford to give in to the status quo, perpetuating the “cackling hens” stereotype, cutting other women down to build ourselves up. We need to support each other on the small scale as much as we do on the large scale. Marching for rights and demand equal pay is great, but we also need to remember little things that can make a big difference – compliment each other when a compliment is due; support each other in the work place or PTA meetings; be patient with “the new girl” in town, on the job site or that adult softball league you play in once a week; be open-minded and open-hearted! We are living in an age where sisters are doin’ it for themselves, and we could do so much more together. I believe that by adopting small changes over time, making a conscious effort every day to pay it forward, we can truly make waves!

Now, back to fashion! The Dazey collection is comprised of ’60s and ’70s-inspired fancy pants, dresses, and accessories that would make Charlie’s Angels jealous. However my personal favorites in the collection are the impressive array of hand-drawn t-shirt designs that radiate positive, empowering messages, encouraging women to stay starry-eyed, take a leap of faith, and chase their dreams. I literally hope to collect EVERY t-shirt they have available but for now I’ll just start with four of them, haha.
I am so happy to be spreading the word about this fabulous company. Below are some of my favorites from the collection. Use my personal Dazey ambassador code to shop below!
